Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem (1961-2009)

Dr. Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem, the most irrepressible Pan Africanist of his generation, died in Nairobi on 24 May 2009. He passed away in a road accident on his way to launch a maternal health campaign in Kigali, Rwanda. The accident happened in the wee hours of the morning on Mombasa road en route to Jomo Kenyatta airport, in Nairobi, Kenya.
May his soul rest in eternal peace
Inna lillahi wa inna ilahi raji’un. “Verily we belong to Allah, and to Allah we return.”
I remember I was an ardent reader of Tajudeen’s thursday post card! How sad, how sad…

I met Tajudeen once at the source of the Nile about 2 1/2 years and approached him for some light conversation. He couldn’t believe I read his articles and was generally aware of Pan-Africanism. He was there with his two lovely daughters.
We talked for a little more than 10 minutes and even took a picture together.
So sad that he has passed on and left a very young family.
May his soul rest in Peace.
